What Is Ecstatica?

Ecstatica artwork

Ecstatica is a pioneering survival horror adventure developed by Andrew Spencer Studios and published by SNEG. Set in northern Europe during the year 928 AD, the game follows an unnamed traveler stranded in the demon-cursed village of Tirich after a bridge collapses. Rendered using software ellipsoids, the world challenges players to survive without an on-screen heads-up display.

Frequently Asked Questions

A few useful distinctions before you start.

Health recovers passively over time when stepping away from combat or resting in safe spots like the barn silo straw. Because there is no health bar, player condition is monitored visually through posture changes such as limping or clutching wounded limbs.

Carrying space is restricted strictly to what the protagonist holds in their left and right hands. Picking up a third item forces you to drop an actively held possession directly onto the ground.

The werewolf can be permanently eliminated by backing it against a solid wall or corner and landing sustained, rhythmic melee strikes for several minutes. Alternatively, players can sprint away or hide inside barrels and cupboards to break its pursuit.

Visiting the cottage of the woods witch outside the castle walls cures the frog transformation with a kiss. This restorative kiss works only once per playthrough, and trespassing near the castle again causes a permanent frog softlock.
